P-funk tributes/covers?

Billy Butler - I’ll bet you. Nice Northern Soul version. Brother of Jerry. He also did ‘Right Track’ which is one of my faves. Apologies if he’s already been mentioned.

Big thanks to Bjorn for that little gem.

Yeah! A bit more dynamic than the Theresa Lyndsey cut, with extra lyrics too!

Nice one for the Dells version of Goodies. Good that. :metal:

Hello there! I came across this forum while searching P-Funk covers. I’m the leader of a P-Funk-inspired collective and we have released a couple of classic P-Funk covers, and are in studio recording more. Check out our covers of “Red Hot Mama” and “Friday Night, August 14th” at tonycamm.com/music

Looking forward to the discussions in this forum.

HUGE Fishbone fan here (a natural band for any fans of PFunk to be into, IMO, as i have always felt Fishbone were the obvious heir apparent to to the Funkadelic legacy (i.e, the one band in modern times who best mixed all these disparate genres & influences together-- all while doing it “their way or the highway”… on their own terms…the white hard rock (and with Fishbone,it even included even metal, at times), the funk, the soul, ska, reggae, punk…and came up with their own brand-new vernacular, their own new genre… songs that at times mixed the genres so deftly and completely that it sometimes seemed like a whole new genre in and of itself (like “Cosmic Slop” et al )… their songs “So Many Millions” and “Behavioral Control Technician” come up mind as prime examples.

Some on here prob already know, but Fishbone loved Funkadelic so much, they couldn’t help but do their own updated version of “Eulogy and Light” (on their masterpiece 1991 album “The Reality of My Surroundings”)— they called it called “Junkie’s Prayer” ( NOTE-- i don’t refer to this one as a “cover”… it’s not… it’s more like an homage):

Anyway, to get more back on topic, that Fishbone covered “Pussycat” is news to me, will have to check that out (thanks!)… but another one to add to yr list of actual recorded PFunk cover versions is Fishbone’s cover of “The Goose” (played live and also a selection on their 1996 retrospective CD “Fishbone 101: Nuttasaurusmeg Fossil Fuelin’ the Fonkay”:

Last but not least, the Viktoriya Yermolyeva (aka vkgoeswild) piano cover of Maggot Brain, Live in Brazil. She used to play this in her apartment during the Frankfort riots to relax her. Now she’s playing it at her concerts.
