Just received this from a friend. Not sure of the year but I’m guessing 76 because Glenn is on it. Hope y’all enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing!
Cool! I was wondering what happened next.
It uses the same sound effect from Prologue on Gloryhallastoopid.
Could this be an HJ/Tales outtake?
If I had to guess I’d say Mothership Connection outtake. Pretty sure this goes with the new spaceship demo. They have the same feel to them.
Interesting…if it’s a Mothership Connection outtake, wouldn’t that make 1976 the wrong year?
75, when ever MC was recorded.
I thank u. Still a travesty no mention of Glenn at all on TAPOAFOM. That just ain’t right!
Awesome track!
In Danny’s book it says that Glen is on vocals. Mike & Eddie on guitar. And question marks on drums and bass. But after listening to this, it’s probably Jerome on drums . @DannyBedrosian, maybe interesting for the second edition of your book.
Someone said it may actually be Glen on drums.
Thank you so much!!!
Maybe whatever session they did for Earth tour - same session they cut This is the way we funk with you and Fantasy is reality. Glen plays drums on This is the way, unless I’m mistaken.
Thank you for that. Boss tune. Should have used more of the vocal than just that short loop on TAPOAFOM.
*in fact, it was ‘bone on drums. As is often the case
You can literally hear Glenn say “pick it up, Jerome” twice in the demo.
He says it twice right before the change ups
Nice! I havent heard that demo, but you may have just won a P-Funk version of the Marvel “No-Prize” for that discovery!
Will have to include in the next edition.
The Marvel No Prize! You’re taking me back to my Spider Man comic collecting days, Danny!
Speaking of the book and demos, how many times when you were doing research for the book did you listen to “behind the scenes” stuff: demos, rehearsals, alternate takes, etc?
My recollection was that the archival elements for “T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M.” (aka “Fly Away”) including Glen Goin’s voice were previously released as short excerpts in the “Sample Some of Disc - Sample some of D.A.T.” series. I haven’t done a full analysis, but I don’t think this is an “original” demo, I think it is something that someone assembled with the released clips designed for sampling, and hence why the term “extended” was likely used in the file title. Please correct me if I’m wrong here.
@Phunklord_Siege reassembled the Sample Some of Disc parts a couple of years ago. But I don’t think this track is from the stuff he did back then. Here’s the topic about that. @Phunklord_Siege, is that correct?
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve listened through all of the Some of Disc stuff, but I’m pretty confident this doesn’t appear on that.
