Illustrations of the P in Egostrip

Dan Lish just released the second volume of his Egostrip book. And since his first book got two p related pieces, I thought it would be fitting to make a topic about it.

He’s a really talented artist/designer. In the Egostrip books there’s drawings/illustrations of artists that he likes and influenced him. It’s mostly hip hop artists, but also some other stuff. And just like Pedro Bell’s work, you always find new details when looking at his illustrations.

So the first p-funk related illustration (in the first book) is of George.

The other one was supposed to be on that Parliaments compilation A New Day Begins that never got released. You know that compilation that was teased on that 10” Record Store Day release.

Here’s what he said about it:

It was going to be used for a triple gatefold vinyl release of the Parliaments - the group that would become Parliament and Funkadelic. In other words, a big jobb!

Each panel would show the transition from doo-wop to funk, featuring George Clinton dropping acid then morphing into Funkadelic.

Alas, five years later the album is still waiting to see the light of day, thus the reason for the artwork remaining in black and white.

That would have been so cool.
