Funkadelic 1971 unpublished photos Evansville, IN 6/13/71 Civic Center Gold Room

Here are some never before seen photos of Funkadelic and Parliament performing in Evansville, IN 6/13/71 at the Civic Center Gold Room. Maggot Brain was released on 7/12/71, but I assume the setlist was pretty close to what was released on the 9/12/71 Rochester, MI show.
My dad took these photos and casually mentioned he had found them while organizing all his photos. He knew I was a funkateer, and had mentioned seeing them to me, but never said he took photos. Figured I needed to finally upload them for posterity.
If someone wants to edit or color correct them that would be awesome!

Not sure why Eddie changes clothes, maybe the leather pants were too hot? Maybe those 2 photos are from soundcheck?

Wow!! :astonished: That is so cool! Thanks for sharing. :star: :star:

Welcome to the forum @Zillatron!

Trying to identify some of the gear.
Looks like Eddie is playing a white Fender Telecaster, a Dunlop Cry Baby wah, and an Acoustic Model 261 with an Acoustic Model 150 on top.

I wonder who’s behind Tiki in the first three photos. Maybe James Wesley Jackson?

Found some similarities with the photos on the Meadowbrook album. Like that Ray has the same pants as on the cover (the later versions).

And Billy Bass has the same shirt on (as the photo in the booklet of the first version). In that photo the shirt has more of a black/dark blue color, but I think that’s perhaps just because the image is darker.

And he appears to have a different bass in that photo. But (I think) he has the same bass in Evansville as he had when they played at Soldier Field in Chicago July 18, 1970.

WOW! Thank you for sharing these!

I went ahead and adjusted the levels on these scans. These look like they were shot on an old
Kodak Instamatic camera. (the aspect ratio is indicative of 126 film)

Whew. Gonna need some time to gather myself. These are the pix I want. When you talk to folks who were a little bit older than us, who attended these gigs and it’s just no big deal to them. But it is SOLID GOLD to us lol.
What else can you dig up?

Great work spotting the gear! But is that really an Acoustic 150 on top? It doesn’t seem to have all the knobs that the 150 has. Check this image. By the way, that site is a great resource with a lot of images. But I wasn’t able to find an Acoustic amp with just one knob.

Sébastien Provençal on fb pointed out that Billy got a Hagstrom H8. And I just noted that he plays two different basses. I missed that! I believe the other one is a Fender Precision bass. The Hagstrom is in the first photo and the Fender is in the third one.

Yeah, the top unit has me confused. I assume it’s a power amp, but cant find a picture that matches either. The one knob matches a 300, but it has different faceplate, and not sure if that was even out in 1971.

I think Billy played the Hagstrom 8 string bass on “I Got A Thing” and " Free Your Mind", so that is likely what is being played when those were taken.

Thanks for the level adjustments Loc!

Maybe it’s the Acoustic 200?

I have been waiting on pictures of this version of Funkadelic. I really want more live music with the band circa 1969-1971. And any live tracks of the band with Ruth Copeland too!

I am no musician, much less a gear head of music things. But I am a pretty decent internet detective of retro electronics.

I adjusted the rotation of the photo of the amp in GIMP and I got this.

Then I did a simple Google glass image search and I got a hit on this.

Here is the Reddit post with more info on the amp.

Yes! Acoustic 260 head with a 261 cabinet. Found also this page where it says “The combination of these two units is very LOUD”.

Yeah, live stuff with Ruth Copeland from that era would be awesome. Welcome to the forum @TomBomb1!
