Free Your Mind all analog reissue from Org Music

Now we’re talking! The restored and remastered Free Your Mind from Org Music is up for preorder. Dave Gardner & Catherine Vericolli certified! Been waiting for this for some time now. Release date May 1. It’s also up on hhv and juno.

There’s a 2LP 45RPM version with a tip-on gatefold, just like they did with the release of the first album. But for Free Your Mind, all vinyl variants are all analog. So that’s cool.

As usual there’s a bunch of variants.

The ‘In’ Groove has also a variant of the single disc version. But it’s not a color variant, instead it got a nicer jacket (high-gloss tip-on gatefold).

I am so excited about this series, do you think they will do all the westbound albums? also i wonder how they tracklisted FYMAYAWF as a double LP? it’s such a short album and only 6 songs

I really hope they’ll do every album, but so far they only mentioned Maggot Brain. Free Your Mind and Maggot Brain was mastered at the same time.

A 2LP-set for around 31 minutes is a little bit crazy. Maybe/hopefully the sound quality will be even better (if you’re able to hear the difference ). I’m wondering about the track listing as well. Here’s a guess.

A1 Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow 10:00
B1 Friday Night August 14th 5:20
B1 Funky Dollar Bill 3:14
C1 I Wanna Know If It’s Good To You 5:54
D1 Some More 2:55
D2 Eulogy And Light 3:29

But then you only have around 6 minutes on side C and 6:30 on side D. That’s crazy.

I couldn’t justify getting the 2xLP version for this one as easily as I could with the debut so I went with the In Groove variant for the nicer jacket. Looking forward to Maggot Brain.

It is crazy! I am glad I picked up the double LP reissue of the self-titled album, as it was a bit long for a single LP in terms of sound quality. I’ll likely pre-order the single LP version of this remaster

I am just praying the series at least gets to Standing On the Verge Of Getting It On, as that’s my favorite P-Funk album. Also the digital version of America Eats Its Young that’s on streaming sounds terrible, so that desperately needs a remaster so I’m hoping for that too lol. If I posted this in the wrong topic, someone please direct me to the proper one lol

So I ordered the 2LP version, just too curious how it sounds. But now I’m thinking of getting the In Groove one . Maybe I’ll just keep that one, don’t know.

The owner of the In Groove, Mike Esposito, said he received a test pressing (I suppose the single disc one) and compared it to an original. He said the test pressing sounded awesome. :fire:

Looks like the single disc version will also be in a gatefold, at least the plaid room/seasick one.

A couple of people over at the Steve Hoffman forum complained about the cover. Some talked about the quality of the reproduction and others about that they wanted the cover variation with the full image on the outside of the gatefold.

I feel that Org Music did the right decision with this release, since they remade the original US cover. The full image style came later with the 89/90 reissue. And yeah the image isn’t the sharpest, but the one on the original isn’t that sharp either. The image on the 89/90 reissue is clearer, but that’s actually another image (from the same photo shoot).

Personally I like this cover. Thick tip-on cover (for the 45 RPM version at least).
