Why is the Live poster mirrored?

I have two copies of Pfunk Earth tour live, both with the poster. Both posters are mirrored (Dr Funkenstein caption in the bottom right corner is backwards). When I look on discogs, some are mirrored like mine, and others are normal.

Does anyone know the history behind why some posters are mirrored and others arent?

That’s interesting. I thought all posters had that mirrored text.

Looking at discogs, of the releases with an image of the poster it looks like the UK release (CALD 5002) is the only one that isn’t mirrored.

Besides the catalog number, the UK release has a different “fake sticker” on the cover (“Includes a Giant Full Colour Poster”). Next time i see that, I will check the poster!

I always wondered about this too. On purpose or was everyone so high back in 1977 no one gave a fuck and they just let it get printed that way. LOL

It’s not just the mirrored text, it’s the entire image that’s swapped.

It is interesting that the UK version is the only one that has it the “right” way.

The photograph was likely taken with a large format camera like a Graflex or something similar. These are mirror-less cameras. The image is projected on ground glass and it appears inverted. This is how it appears on the negative and the print. As to why the text is inverted, that’s anybody’s guess.
