Over the years, P-Funk released a number of Beatles/Lennon/McCartney cover songs. Do they have any more covers from that group of artists that were finished but not released? Also, rumor has it they covered the entire Sgt. Pepper’s album. I’ve heard the unfinished title track. Is there a finished cover version of the Sgt. Pepper’s album in the vault?

Off the top of my head, Beatles, Lennon, and McCartney songs covered by P-Funk:

Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Parliaments
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) - Eddie Hazel
Because - Funkadelic
She Loves You (snippet) - Funkadelic
Mind Games - George Clinton
My Love - Jessica Cleaves/Family Series
.
and there’s also Bernie Worrell’s live piano cover of Come Together and Let It Be .

Yo, Loc! Long time, man. Hope all is we’ll. What/when is this from? Any details?

Funky.

The metadata says track 3, WM/Composer R.Curtis,G.Shider,G.Clinton and 3/24/2008 4:13:09 PM. There’s one search result on Google from about 5 years ago hinting at this track’s existence.

Cool! Thanks! Funky track…

I found this on an old hard drive. It may have been from those eBay auctions in 2009. I ended up winning two of the lots. There was an unmarked miniDisc that had some tracks on it. Sadly, all the tapes, CDs and other items, as well as my miniDisc player were stolen from my car in 2012. I did manage to rip most of the interesting stuff.

Very cool of you to share it! Sorry to hear of the car burglary. I’ve been there, man. :rage:

The other day, I was reading a Steve Panell interview from a few years ago. In reference to the ā€œPlasticā€ Brain Flam project, he said a handful of Flam tunes were released on the Family Series collection. Does a handful mean there’s more out there that hasn’t been released? If so, how much more? I’d love to hear more tracks from that project.

At some point along the way, the fellas decided that George needed to hear what they were up to. So they hit the road and just showed up to P-Funk HQ one day — lack of an official invitation not a concern. ā€œWe didn’t get sent for,ā€ Stevie chuckles. ā€œWe bogarted our way there… George was like ā€˜Damn. They’re here.’ We just had in our mind ā€œWe’re gonna go do this.ā€ George wound up putting them up in a house and handing the fellas off to GARRY SHIDER to start recording an album at United Sound. ā€œHe was just great at what he did,ā€ says Stevie of Garry. ā€œHe was a hell of a producer to me… He worked good with us. It was a project that I think he was pretty proud of.ā€ But proud or not, the album was never completed, and the group disbanded. However, George was good enough to include a handful of Flam tunes in the P-Funk Family Series collection. ā€œAt least it didn’t just sit on the shelf,ā€ Stevie surmises. ā€œSo that was kinda cool… I wanted bigger things to happen from it… but it was a good experience.ā€

Cool interview! Thanks for sharing the link. If there are more tracks on the shelf, here’s hoping we get to hear them. The stuff on The Family Series is tight.

Btw, is that a misprint in the article? The band has always been referred to as ā€œFlastic Brain Flamā€ or ā€œTreylewd’s Flastic Brain Flamā€ (as opposed to ā€˜Plastic’).

Yeah, I noticed that too. I thought it was a typo, but just in case wasn’t, I went with ā€œPlasticā€ since that’s how it was referenced in the article.
