The Extended Version of R&B Skeletons on 2000's Greatest Hits comp?

Hey gang, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the version of ‘R&B Skeletons In The Closet’ from the 2000 Capitol Greatest Hits compilation comes from? It’s about a minute and a half longer than the album version, the booklet makes no mention of it being extended and as far as I’m aware (though I don’t own it) the 12’’ single just features the album cut. Is it a previously unreleased edit then? And as this is the only best-of I have of GC are there any other comps I need to look out for that contain unreleased mixes?

I discovered it years ago but still don’t know the deal on it. I think the title track did get a single release although it failed to chart. Shocked the daylights outta me when I saw it was a 6 minute version thought it was a typo.

Didn’t know about that version! Nice find.

Yeah according to the label (on discogs) the 12” got the album version. I got it, but been a while since I listened to it. I will dig it up and check if it’s actually the album version on there!

Regarding other comps, have you heard the Extended Pleasure comp? It doesn’t have any unreleased mixes, but some nice 12” mixes. And then we got the Parliament comp The 12" Collection And More. Some really nice stuff on there, but yeah no GC solo stuff. :slightly_smiling_face:

George Clinton’s greatest funkin hits *

Has some wonderful reworking of classic tunes. The mothership connection star child (fully equipped mix) is beautiful. Live Glen vocals but tweaked in the studio. Extra vocals and stuff.

Might not be to everyone’s taste but I played that album to death when it came out in 96. Probably the album that turned me into a fully-fledged fan of the P, rather than just having one nation in my collection.

I appreciate it even more now I know who was playing on it - thank you, Danny :grinning:

  • not strictly a George solo, it only contains 2 solo tunes. This is more a Pfunk all stars with some all star guests kind of album. But whatever, it’s boss :metal:

Wow, amazed I’ve introduced YOU to something. Let me know if you need the rip my friend

I do have those comps, somewhere, buried deep in some old boxes lol. Thanks for the reminder!

How funny! That was my first intro to the big beautiful world of GC’s spin off acts. My first P-Funk album was Computer Games so I was very much led by GC’s solo work at first, then BAM, I was getting Mothership and Star Child and I’ve never stopped digging since :sunglasses:

I was disappointed to find there was no big Sterling Silver Starship back catalogue. Still am :grinning:

Ha ha ha, there’s a lot of stuff I don’t know about. And then a bunch that I knew and then forgot about.

I found it on spotify (eu), but thanks! There it’s even called “extended version”.

So I listened to the 12” and the label is correct, it’s the album version.

How interesting. I very rarely stream (more of a CD man myself) but how peculiar Spotify are adding more detail than the label did on the physical release!

Will be keeping this tagged as a 2000 first release then - thanks for checking the vinyl boatman!

I now recall the title track 45". Came with a picture sleeve too.
