Org Music is releasing a remastered version of the Meadowbrook 1971 show for Record Store Day Black Friday (November 27). Gatefold cover with new artwork.
It’s remastered by Dave Gardner (the same guy who did the other Org Music Funkadelic reissues), so it will be interesting to see if the sound has approved. It’s also the first time this has come out as a gatefold, so that’s nice.
I read that this release will be the complete show, like the CD version. But I didn’t see that info on Org Music’s site, so I’m not sure it’s correct. The previous vinyl versions has all been slightly edited, due to the length of the show. Don’t know, maybe it’s thanks to the remastering that it’s possible.
Edit: I see now that Org Music’s site actually say “the complete, uncut performance”.
Edit 2: Checked the CD liner notes and the CD was apparently also edited.
I’m gonna sit this one out. It’s cool that this will be the first vinyl release of the full show, but the Org Music releases have been pretty shoddy on the audio fidelity front. Pity…
Well, damn. I still hadn’t pulled the trigger on procurement of this show, tho I’ve thought about it ever since it disappeared from the streaming services a couple years ago… I had a thread about, wondering “CD vs vinyl”? The OP might’ve made up my mind as one to go for… but reading on,
no way I’m splurging on some low-quantity but also lower-quality offering just because it’s different… I’ll go vinyl but do try to avoid the “3 Men With Beards” (or whatever their brand is)-syndrome…
I guess I’ll go back to my unfortunate fall-back “indecisive mode” again… hell, the way things go with me, it’ll probably be streaming again by the time I finally come to a decision!,
Anyway, really appreciate the tidbits, peoples— thx!!
I’ve been happy with all my Org Music releases. Granted I don’t have a lot of them, but it’s interesting that we have so different impressions of them. Was it specific the Funkadelic releases that you had issues with or more Org Music overall?
The Maggot Brain release they did sounds…inferior to my og copy. Free Your Mind sounds good, but I personally was disappointed with the cover (even though it wasn’t an issue for some folks). FYM is also a half hour long stretched over 2 discs which felt like a cash grab. Overall, my original copies still sound great.
Please keep us posted on Meadowbrook. I’d definitely reconsider it if you give it a thumbs up. Thanks, @silentboatman…
I’ve been seeing the promo for this and may cop. Only supposed to be a limited amount. May become collectible so I guess I will get it. Has this ever come out on vinyl before. Like shortly after it came out of CD the first time?
Only vinyl relase I know of came out about ten years ago. This upcoming release claims to be the first unedited vinyl release, but I don’t really see how that’s accurate. My vinyl copy matches my CD copy.
Went back and listened to the vinyl. And now I actually think that the new release could be extended . Here’s my reasoning.
So when they did the original CD they removed three minutes from Free Your Mind in order for it to be a single disc release. Well actually three minutes was removed from that fast jam they did just before they kick into Free Your Mind. Anyway. When they later on did the vinyl release, like 20 years later, they did it exactly like the CD with the missing three minutes.
But, Free Your Mind is the last track and the last side on the vinyl is only around 14,5 minutes. So they could easily add another three minutes on that side. And since they remastered it for this new upcoming release, why wouldn’t they keep it if they could?
