Quazar original tracklist?

First pressings of the Quazar album have a stickered-on tracklist covering up a different one that’s allegedly radically different from the final product. Anyone know what that different one looks like? There’s no picture of a stickerless copy anywhere.

That’s interesting, I never knew about this. On the Discogs entry for this release, it has a track listing/writing credits on the record sleeve that is different than the track list on the sticker on the back cover. So presumably this is the track listing they stickered over. It looks like it has this track listing on every sleeve, including ones that don’t have the back cover stickered over.

I don’t know if this the same, but there is an image of this pressing, which only features two songs that made it to the final release.

  1. Raise: Throw Up Your Hands And Dance was re-recorded in a slightly slower tempo by Jerome Brailey for Mutiny.

  2. Funk n’ Roll and Workin’ on the Buildin’ are on the final tracklist, as you know. Funk with a Big Foot and Funk with a Capital G, however, are missing from this early sequence. It is possible that Funk (No Question) is an early name for one of them.

  3. Of the rest of the songs, from what I can find through surface-level googling, only Sweet Thang, One Hell of a Thang, Raise, and Fly Over Heaven are available online. If We’d Never Parted, Smile, and Now That You Got It (Do You Like It) have not surfaced, though they could be early names as well. I would love to be proven wrong.

Wow!!! Thank you so much for this picture. I was seriously considering buying an original to try my hand at sticker surgery. There’s a set of mp3s floating around under the title “Eclipse: The Westbound Recordings” that almost exactly matches this tracklist with only Workin’ On The Buildin’ being absent and Funk (No Question) being a part of Raise. I’ve read the album had to be re-recorded when the band signed to Arista due to legal troubles with Westbound, who argued they had first dibs on Quazar. I assume the deal here is that Arista mistakenly printed the tracklist to the original Westbound album on initial copies.

I did not know that the Eclipse recordings were circulating! Do you happen to have a copy?

Thanks for this! Do you know when the set started circulating?

I logged on to say that I don’t really know when this got out there and I’ve only ever heard the same lossy cassette rip, and of course I double-check Soulseek and somebody has a way better source with more tracks… I don’t know where this one comes from either! It’s got everything including Workin’ On The Buildin’ AND Funk With A Capital G, although I suspect the latter is a bonus someone threw on since it’s lower quality than everything else. Still a lossy rip but still an upgrade.

Are Workin’ on the Buildin’ and Funk n Roll different from the final release? I couldn’t notice any differences. I thought they had to re-record the album in order to release it?
