Does the unedited full-length Newbergh rehearsal video even exist? I figure if anyone has it or knows of its existence, it would be you. What are the chances of it seeing the light of day? It’s my personal P holy grail.
I don’t even know what this Newberg is… so when a main contributor on here talks about it as a holy grail, I become very curious… so what are we talking about here—what time period is it?
It’s where pfunk rehearsed before the earth tour in 1976. Awesome stuff.
It was first released in the 90s in Japan. I really like the vinyl release from 2017. Apparently it’s Newburgh.
Never seen any video. But would also love to see that!
Yup! The band rehearsed for The Earth tour in an airport hangar in Newbergh, NY. A more complete audio version has been available for a long time, but we’ve only (as far as I know) seen highly edited video.
@silentboatman you’ve definitely seen some video. For example, this footage is from Newbergh.
Ah yeah, forgot about that one!
The “Live from Madison Square Garden 1977” vinyl is also, allegedly, the Newberg rehearsals. Same tracklist but with an extra track that was recorded in Japan 1993.
There’s quite a few P-Funk releases that are billed as one thing but are really another. Wonder why that is?
Yeah it is the same.
It’s clear that they (Rox Vox and Timeline) have released these shows deliberately with the wrong info. Apparently it’s a loophole in the European law in order to release unofficial recordings as radio shows. There’s more info in this post over at the steve hoffman forum.
There is another video clip from that where they are doing Comin Round The Mountain. Super rare. Someone posted a video of the RHCP watching it. And they make a comment about how skinny The Dr is. And they are talking about how PF could play circles around Aerosmith.
Yes exactly! There’s a good amount of (edited) footage out there, but I’m sure there must be more somewhere. They rehearsed “Getten To Know You” in Newbergh, but so far, we only have the audio. Imagine seeing that one!!!
