"Mommy, Funkadelic?" & "Whole Lotta Love"

“Mommy, What’s a Funkadelic” & Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”
So maybe this is an already established thang but… would somebody like to enlighten me on why these two songs have (a portion of) the same riff (like the same key and everything)? Which came first? I know Whole Lotta Love was released first but I’ve found live recordings of Mommy, What’s a Funkadelic recorded before Whole Lotta Love was released.

Wow I didn’t know about that. Pretty similar!

Apparently Page made the Zeppelin riff in the summer of 1968. Don’t know when Mommy, What’s a Funkadelic was made, 1969 perhaps?

Interestingly, I’ve always heard a bit of Zeppelin in the first track on the next album, too. At about 3:45 of Free Your Mind, the “give it up” has always sounded like the “been a long”, as in, “been a long time since I Rock n rolled”. Anyone else hear that?

Also “Party Up In Here” by Brides at about 1:40 sounds like she’s doing her best Robert Plant impression lol
