Question for those of you who know audio editing and stuff:

I’m not sure why, but four of these songs I just can’t get to be anywhere near as loud as other live albums? I don’t have a lot of skills, but usually volume adjustment doesn’t take much skill. I’ve tried compressing, amplifying and both, and still when these songs come up in the mix they are noticeably quieter. Strangely, they sound fine on my phone, either through my speaker or on a bluetooth device. But when my computer is playing it (typically via winamp) it sounds extremely quiet and muffled.

The four songs in question are from show 1: Cosmic Slop, Bootzilla, Flash Light and I’d Rather Be With You.

I realize this is an issue with the original recording. The recorded likely was further away from the speakers for these songs, and/or had their recorder in their pocket or something. Still, I’m usually able to overcome these issues and make quiet/muffled songs sound better. But I’ve tried everything and these ones are still bad.

In Audacity I have it amplified to the point that the dark blue sections reach well beyond the top (meaning I am accepting clipping to get better volume) and the light blue sections (RMS perceived loudness) are well into the range where they should be, just by comparing to numerous other files I view daily. Does it maybe have something to do with the frequencies? Perhaps the recording is completely missing a range of frequencies and no matter how much I amplify it, it will sound dead and muffled. Maybe those sounds can be isolated and amplified separately. But like I said, I’m not an expert on that. A few of you have done some cool things with audio software in the past, so I thought I’d reach out to the group here and see if you have any ideas.

Can’t help with the audio but I missed the sharing of these back when this thread was now active. Any chance those are around somewhere or are these only available to stream?

Thanks.
