Was listening to George Duke’s “Reach For It” LP, and the title track sounds like Bootsy’s playing on it and doing some vocal, the sleeve has no mention, and the wiki page has no mention, but my ears are hearing Bootsy, or is it someone impersonating him? would love it if people on here could give it a listen (it must be on most streaming sites), and give there opinion
George Duke impersonating Bootsy’s voice himself. Bass by Stanley Clarke.
Yeah I believe @swang is right, but really sounds like Boots. Great track!
I bought Reach For It when it was released in 1977. Good album. Yes, George Duke was imitating the Bootsy voice, and as Oscar Wilde once said, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.
The ‘Don’t Let Go album’ is pretty good too. The hit from that album was ‘Dukey Stick’, with Byron Miller on bass. His bass solo has that Bootsy vibe too.
I’m pretty certain that Byron Miller plays bass on Reach For It (the song only).
My bad! You are correct. Stanley does appear on the album, but bass on the title track was indeed played by Byron.
Stanley Clarke is the bassist on Watch Out Baby, not Reach For It. The album’s credits don’t list a bassist. Clarke is credited on one track, not the entire album. But I have heard that Byron Miller is the bassist on the track. So I’ll go with that consensus.
