Heavens to Megatroid.....any info about this?

Came across this jam on Youtube just recently – its labelled as a Funkadelic track Ive never heard of before: “Heavens to Megatroid”…sounds like Eddie jamming, Hendrix-like, really showing his rock side. I barely see mention of it online though, and haven’t been able to find out yet what it is from…someone on here surely knows though? :folded_hands:

I only found one mention here (on P-Funk Forums), buried in a long thread about rare/unreleased tracks…anyway, sounds kind of like a studio (or perhaps live) jam; it’s not great sound quality but I love the playing. When I first listened, I wondered if it was even a “Funkadelic” track at all…the only one I was fairly sure of was that it was Eddie on lead guitar, so maybe it was a posthumous Eddie track I hadn’t come across before.

There’s also some web hits that come up under the word “Murgatroyd” as opposed to “Megatroid”, FWIW…but unless I’m missing it, I’ve not yet found the original source, or year the material was recorded. Help?!

I think it’s from the hardcore jollies/Games Dames sessions. And I think it’s Bigfoot and Bootsy, accompanying…think

Shame it’s not on Rest in P, with a better recording. It’s the bomb, ain’t it.

The name is probably yet another Hannah Barbera ref. Heavens to Murgatroyd is the catchphrase of a dude called Snagglepus, a pink, thespian mountain lion. Exit stage left…

Wait a minute I know this from somewhere. Was it on the turds?

I believe so. Was it listed as Eddie Hazel Rocks Out (Smeeros Jam)?

Haha, I knew id definitely heard the phrase before, long ago (the alternate title, anyway, with “Murgatroyd”)…in my dim memory I associate it with my late father, who used to say that phrase jokingly…I guess Eddie or one of the other guys watched the cartoon Snagglepuss came from (“Quick Draw McGraw”, so I read, which is before even MY time, but not the dad’s or the Funkadelic guys).
What are some of the other references you alluded to?
And more importantly, whats the full name of whatever was being discussed there— I’d like to hear some more of these Hardcore Jollies/Games Dames sessions, for sure, maybe get a physical copy if more of it is like that— I love that era!

Hating meeces to pieces and ain’t yer average Huckleberry hound are two Hannah Barbera refs that spring to mind.

Probably more. I’ve a stinking hangover though and it hurts to think so.

I think there’s another thread where this is given a deeper dive.

Thx— it didn’t come up when I did my initial forum search, so— any suggestions on a good search term(s)? Like i wrote, hardly anything came up for me on here when I initially searched on the title I was asking about (the “Megatroid”)?

One poster wondered if it was on something referred to simply as “the turds” and another mentioned something called “Eddie Hazel Rocks Out (Smeeros Jam)”, but I wasn’t familiar with whatever either of those are? (there’s something called “Eddies Jam” on the posthumous release “At Home (with Family)”, which just checked out on Apple Music, but that’s not it (thought it might e gone by a couple diff titles …well, any help’s appreciated.

The Smeero’s Jam seems to be another name for the same track as HTM (as it will now be known) on YouTube.

Dunno if it’s exactly the same or different recording session of the same track.

The Turds sounds like some sort of bootleg compilation that it might be on. Not one I’ve heard of or come across.

There’s a great pfunk outtakes album on YouTube somewhere that has Eddie and Bootsy playing Sly and the family and loads of other demos and that… but I can never find it when I look for it.
