Just came across this while wandering thru the NME archives. Hadn’t seen it before!
Cliff White. Very nice ![]()
Cant get enough of the George Clinton interviews from the 70’s. George promoted the hell outta PFunk no doubt.
He was and still is about “that funk”.The man never stops. The world knows there’s only one GC.
And thanx for this interview.
Oops sorry everyone, I should have included Cliff’s name in their as the article’s author in the original post. I’m not familiar with him, would love to learn more.
The pleasure is mine to share. Who knows what other gems are hiding in these old British magazines (NME, Melody Maker, Sounds), which unfortunately haven’t been properly archived (ie digitized and made searchable) by anybody. Anyways, I’ll keep posting stuff as I come across it.
Yw. Cool pix of Junie as well.
Bit of a legend. A very cool English feline. Sadly no longer with us.
Massive James Brown aficionado and lover of funky music in general. I read a JB book years ago that he contributed to and have re-read it to death in the intervening years. James really liked him for some reason and gave him lots of personal time.
Didn’t know he had worked for Charly records - there’s his link to the P - my copy of one nation is a Charly one.
I’m sure you would have already been there, but Rocks Back Pages (run by the venerable Barney Hoskyns) is a treasure trove of Brit music magazines.
BTW How are you, Jay? It’s been more than 20 years since we’ve spoken
Got this up in the attic. Interesting pictures.
Yeah. This one was always a good one. NME got a gang of stuff on the P from that era.
Turns out there’s a massive load of NMEs from ‘the era’ already scanned and available here: archive.org
AFAIK there is no index anywhere for the NME, so basically you have to go through each issue, page by page, looking for stuff. Which is fun – but time-consuming.
