I would recommend two albums by The Undisputed Truth, produced by Norman Whitfield. Cosmic Truth and Higher Than High, both from 1975, feature some awesome funk-rock and P-Funk influenced grooves!

I heard a while back (in an interview maybe) that Norman Whitfield used to go to p-funk shows back in the day to get inspired
