I like the Da da da’s from Under the Influence of a Groove by Bootsy’s Rubber Band: they take the melody from Sly’s If You Want Me To Stay. Lovely stuff.

Assume that’s Parlet or Brides or some amalgamation thereof.

Bringing this back since I noticed a variant of this melody (and a possible reference to “on the one”) in a De La Soul concert of all things. Interestingly, Skeet Curtis was the bassist on the song, Help Is On The Way by The Whatnauts which was sampled in this song.
