I recall hearing that Bootsy was the victim of an impersonator/imposter many years back, probably in the 90’s, but a recent Rolling Stone article explores this in much more detail than I have ever seen before:

I read through Apple News (which I have a subscription to myself, so it is likely not free there either):
They have quotes from Foley who met a Bootsy impersonator as a young member of Miles Davis’ band and something seemed off (asking for money, complaining about his record company, etc.). Quite a wild case of identity theft. Worth a read.
