I came across two potential versions of the album online. And even better, you can listen to either of them right now, in their entirety! And yes, there exists a version of the title track (if you’re willing to handle the low quality). I’d like to know which one people think is the “final” version.

**Shadows On The Wall Shaped Like The Hat You Wore**

The first is on the [Prince org forum by Shango](https://prince.org/msg/8/308570). The track-titles posted match the ones released on the family series. Also listed, are details about who was involved (which makes it seem more like the final version).

1. _Shadows On The Wall Shaped Like The Hat You Wore_
2. _Twenty Bucks_
3. _Just For Play_
4. _Catch A Keeper_
5. _Love Don’t Come Easy_
6. _Think Right_

**Shadow[s] On The Wall Shaped Like The Hat You Wore**

The other post I came across was on [Facebook, posted by user EddieHazelandtheParliamentFunkadelicThang](https://www.facebook.com/EddieHazelandtheParliamentFunkadelicThang/posts/shadow-on-the-wall-shaped-like-the-hat-you-wore-was-the-album-title-for-the-brid/2846132112069084/). On the surface, track listing for “_Shadow On The Wall Shaped Like That Hat You Wore_” (intentionally left off the ‘s’?), looks quite different. (The post also lists a fourth album track listing, more below). However, listening to the lyrics of the tracks from the first post, it seems clear enough that the tracks are the same (excluding _Too Funky In Here_, released as a single by P-Funk All Stars). _Twenty Bucks_ is _Make Your Move_ (the song starts with “_Are you ready? Let’s get it on. Make your move_”. With _I’m Going Left_, they don’t exactly say the song title, but do a Right/Left thing with “_Think right if ya wanna go left_”. Finally, _Just For Play_ is _Love Is A Baseball Game_. I think the lack of a baseball reference is intentionally cryptic, fitting the line “_You’ve been in touch with me for a long time, and you don’t even know my game_”. Additionally, besides the clear relation between the track titles, there are lyrics that could be interpreted as allusions to baseball: “_twist and turn me_” and “_you know you have to get caught_”.

1. _Shadow On The Wall_
2. _Catch A Keeper_
3. _Make Your Move_ [released as _Twenty Bucks_?]
4. _Love Don’t Come Easy_
5. _I’m Going Left_ [released as _Think Right_?]
6. _Love Is A Baseball Game_ [released as _Just For Play_?]
7. _It’s Too Funky In Here_ [released as a single by P-Funk All Stars]

On both versions of _Shadows On The Wall Shaped Like The Hat You Wore_, the only song missing is the title track. I don’t believe it has ever been officially released as intended for the album. However, again, while researching unreleased albums, I found the discussion here on _The C-Conspiracy In The Last Time Zone_, and was listening to the mentioned _The Mammoth Sessions_ leaks. While listening, I noticed the track titled _Da Da Da_ contains the lyrics exactly matching the title track/album name. Furthermore, the guitar on it seems to be continuing the Western theme of the previous album, _Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy_ (which is present on _Twenty Bucks_/_Make Your Move_ and _Think Right/I’m Going Left_). (Tangentially, I think the Diddles and Dah-Das on the track were later used/quoted on the track _Martial Law_, released on _Hey Man… Smell My Finger_).

**untitled fourth album**

And here’s the other (fourth) album mentioned (I’d consider opening a new discussion, but the album may not even have a title). Interestingly, _French Kiss_ was released on _The Cinderella Theory_, and _Hey Good Lookin’_ & _Do Fries Go With That Shake_ on _R&B Skeletons In The Closet_. For track 2, I can’t remember if I’ve heard a P-Funk song with mud. Regarding tracks 3 and 4, I have been researching unreleased albums (see the discussion here about _Upsouth_), and encountered Johnny mentioned in _Rap “N\*\*\*\*\*ish”_ from the live album _Funk Um Agin… For the First Time_. There could be other songs mentioning Johnny, but, personally, either I can’t recall, didn’t notice, or haven’t listened to them yet.

1. _French Kiss_
2. _Doing It In The Mud_
3. _Johnny Was A Pimp_
4. _Run Johnny_
5. _Hey Good Lookin’_
6. _Do Fries Go With That Shake_
